Curt Valva

Founder, GM, Sunstate Natural Products Consultants

Curt Valva has over 30 years of experience in the personal and home care CPG industry. He currently consults in the Natural and Organic personal care, home care, and pet care sectors of the industry. Prior to founding Sunstate, Mr. Valva was with Aubrey Organics for 15years holding various executive positions including President, COO, and GM.  He previously held similar roles at Estee Lauder, the world leader in prestige cosmetics in both the US and Canada.  He is an active member of the NSF task force chartered with writing ‘Organic’ standards for personal care products in the USA.  He served as a board member of the Natural Products Foundation and an active member in the Natural Products Association.  

As the founder of Sunstate NPC, Mr. Valva consults with small to mid-sized Natural Products companies.  Focus is on certification, standards, strategy, structure, branding, operations, sales and marketing.

Curt has been a guest educational speaker at NP Expo East, NP Expo West, the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit, NPA, BioFach/Vivanesse, and Beyond Beauty in Paris.  He holds an MBA (Finance) from Hofstra University in NY, a BBA in Marketing

Gay Timmons owns and operates Oh, Oh Organic, Inc., an organic and specialty ingredient distribution company founded in 2000. Oh, Oh is committed to the development and delivery of sustainable agricultural ingredients for the cosmetic and personal care industries. 




Ashley Prange is founder and CEO of Au Naturale Cosmetics, and organic color cosmetics company based out of Green Bay, WI. 

After 7 years of working as an Analyst for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Ashley began to lobby for Personal Care Product Safety in Washington, D.C. Ashley continues to lobby for policy change in the Personal Care Products space.

Tara Foley

Founder & CEO of Follain

Shocked by the unsafe ingredients in U.S. beauty products, Tara launched Follain in July 2013, as the healthy skincare retail alternative, and as a catalyst to change the U.S. beauty industry. Before launching Follain, Tara researched safe and sustainable skincare, apprenticing on an organic lavender farm in France, and with a private label skincare company in Maine. She has documented this research and journey on her blog, The Naturalchemyst, since 2009. Tara received her MBA from Babson College, where she won a national retail business plan competition for the Follain concept, and her BA in Public Policy and Law, from Trinity College. Tara’s vision and passion fuel Follain’s growth.


Rebecca Hamilton

Co-Owner/ VP of Research and Development at W.S. Badger

Rebecca Hamilton is an owner and the Vice President of Research and Development/Quality Assurance at the W.S. Badger Company, where she oversees technical research, new product innovation and development, companywide quality assurance and regulatory affairs as well as Badger’s product related sustainability initiatives. Rebecca has over a decade of experience in the natural products industry and has served as an industry expert and public presenter at over 30 conferences and events. Her background in ethnobotany and supply chain management coupled with her passions for organic living, safe products, and ethical commerce have led her to wider industry involvement and public service outreach. She is currently involved in safe cosmetics legislation and toxic chemical reform, has served as the chair of the Natural Products Association Natural Personal Care Steering Committee, and is an active committee member on both the Personal Care Products Council’s Sunscreen Taskforce and on the American Sustainable Business Council’s Safer Chemicals Coalition.

Janell Schroeder

Document Control & Certification Specialist with Intelligent Nutrients 

Janell Schroeder brings over 10 years knowledge and experience in personal care product development, manufacturing, certification and regulatory compliance, working primarily with natural and organic ingredients.

She is passionate about reducing her lifestyle footprint, which has expanded to inspire her co-workers by creating workplace and home mindful practices; she leads volunteer opportunities that actively address local environmental needs such as water front clean up and replanting natural prairie grasses.

Janell has a strong attention to detail, evident in her status as an industry expert in essential oils through QC, handling, compounding, sourcing and documentation. 

Janell has always challenged herself personally and professionally with new adventures and experiences. Some of the most notable were living and working in Japan and sailing around Galveston Bay for a summer.

Mia Davis works to improve the safety and sustainability of chemicals and materials, and to educate and engage a diverse range of stakeholders. Mia is leading groundbreaking discussions and forging new partnerships with brands and consumers, chemical makers and ingredient suppliers, and the creators of new standards and regulations.

Mia is the Director of Mission at Credo, a beauty retailer out to change the way people think about the ingredients and products they use on their bodies. 

Mia was the first hire at Beautycounter, a fast-growing skin care and beauty company dedicated to safer, smarter products. Prior to Beautycounter she was a leader in national environmental health coalitions working to move industries away from chemicals known to cause harm in favor of greener chemistries. 

Mia is now consulting with companies across industries to help prove that mission-driven, triple-bottom-line companies will lead the way in an evolving global marketplace.


Jack Corley

Chief Sales Officer of Custom Essence Inc. 

Jack Corley is Chief Sales Officer of Custom Essence Inc. and serves as President of Custom Essence Inc.'s Natural Fragrances Division. He is also a member of the Custom Essence, Inc. Senior Advisory Committee. Mr. Corley has 37 years’ experience in the Fragrance and Flavor Industry. Prior to joining Custom Essence in July 2014, Mr. Corley was Vice-President and Director of Sales and Marketing for Symrise, managing the PureScent  (Trilogy Fragrances) division and brand. Mr. Corley also spent 21 years with International Flavors and Fragrances.

Custom Essence is a mid-sized Fragrance creator and manufacturer based in Somerset, NJ and is the Industry leader in the natural fragrance category.

 Mr. Corley has been retained by some of the largest Fragrance and Flavor Companies in the world, advising them on natural and organic product/market development, natural and organic ingredient sourcing and natural/organic product formulation, labeling and regulatory issues.

 His career during this time has included Senior Management positions in both Sales and Purchasing, with a background heavily oriented towards Natural Ingredients.

 He has written numerous articles related to personal care subjects over the years and is a featured speaker at Fragrance and Personal Care events and seminars as well. In addition, he was a founding member of the Natural Product Association Personal Care and Home Care Standards Committees; and remains a Joint Committee member of the NSF-305 task force.

Mr. Corley is a member of the Board of Directors for the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation, Monmouth County, NJ. 

Additionally, Mr. Corley is as an Adjunct Professor of Business at Monmouth University, in West Long Branch, NJ for the past 14 years.

 Mr. Corley holds both a BBA and an MBA from Baruch College, is a former Associate Professor of Business at St. John’s University, New York
